Manchester City supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side record a 16th successive Premier League victory last weekend, before booking their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
Pep Guardiola’s men comfortably dispatched of Tottenham 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday to continue their unrelenting march to the Premier League title, although the gap at the top remained 11 points after Manchester United got the better of West Brom a day later. And the Citizens took another step closer to a first title under Guardiola on Tuesday as well as they edged past Claude Puel’s Leicester City in the last eight of the Carabao Cup, with goalkeeper Claudio Bravo the hero in saving Riyad Mahrez’s penalty in the shootout.
Consequently, there have been many thrilled Citizens fans in the Tavern in recent times, although they are likely to be unnerved by recent comments from manager Guardiola in his pre-Bournemouth press conference, which express uncertainty as to whether David Silva will feature against the Cherries.
The Spain international has scored five goals and laid on eight assists in 17 Premier League games for the Citizens, although has missed their last two clashes in all competitions against Leicester and Spurs.
And when asked about Silva’s availability in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola said: ‘I don’t know.’
And these comments are likely to concern our resident City fans, many of whom are aware of the huge impact Silva has on their side, and as such how much they could miss him against Eddie Howe’s team on Saturday.
Landlord’s verdict: David Silva has missed each of Manchester City’s last two matches against Leicester City and Tottenham, and it seems uncertain as to whether he’ll be available for the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday.
Manager Pep Guardiola responded with a simple ‘I don’t know’ when asked about the Spaniard’s availability in his pre-match press conference on Friday, with ‘personal reasons’ cited in recent times as to an explanation for his absence.
And it doesn’t appear likely that he’ll be involved on Saturday either.
