Man City agree fresh terms with ‘fundamental’ midfield ace – report

Manchester City supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team maintain their 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League at the weekend, before booking their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s men swept aside Tottenham 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to stretch their winning run in the Premier League to 16 matches, and indeed maintain their lead over neighbours Manchester United at the summit following their win over West Brom on Sunday. And the Citizens took a step closer to their first trophy under Guardiola by edging past Claude Puel’s Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, with Claudio Bravo the hero in saving Riyad Mahrez’s penalty to seal a shootout victory for the visitors.

Consequently, there have been many buoyant City fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be thrilled by a recent report from Goal, which suggests that midfielder Fernandinho has signed a new deal with the Premier League leaders.

The 32-year-old made the move to the Etihad Stadium back in 2013 and has since played 207 games for the club, helping them to the title back in 2014, as well as two League Cup crowns in 2014 and 2016.

And the influential midfielder has played a key part in their success this term with starts in all 18 of their Premier League matches, and recent reports suggest that the Brazil international has extended his stay at Eastlands beyond next summer.

And this news is sure to be well received by our resident City fans, who have seen Fernandinho put in several impressive displays in the heart of their side’s midfield this term, and as such help set them up for a successful 2018.

Landlord’s verdict: Fernandinho was regarded by his manager Pep Guardiola as a ‘fundamental player’ and ‘one of the best’ holding midfielders in the world earlier this season, and it’s not difficult to see why based on his efforts for Manchester City this season.

The 32-year-old has started all 18 of their Premier League games and in that time has also contributed a few goals and assists, but it’s his work in the midfield be it on the ball or off it which have helped the Citizens to 17 wins from those 18 matches, the other being a draw against Everton.

And the Brazil international has reportedly penned a new deal at the Etihad Stadium to keep him there beyond the summer, in news which is sure to delight our resident City fans, who have seen Fernandinho become one of their most important players since his move from Shakhtar Donetsk back in 2013.
