Man City and Man United battling for £50m defensive addition

Stones 2Fans in the Transfer Tavern are reacting in anticipation of seeing two giants from Manchester go toe-to-toe, with the arch-rivals eyeing the same phenomenal addition.

The Daily Star states Manchester United and Manchester City are both pushing for the addition of Everton ace John Stones, with Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola willing to go all the way in pursuit of the England international.

Stones’ future has been up in the air since last summer, when the player was heavily linked with a switch to Chelsea, but he ended up staying put at Goodison Park, although many expect him to find his way out of the club this summer following a disappointing campaign for the Toffees.

With Ronald Koeman now taking charge of Merseyside though, the battle to sign Stones is a tough one to call- but both Manchester sides are willing to pay as much as £50m for the defensive prodigy.

City had Athletic Bilbao ace Aymeric Laporte on their transfer short-list but that move will not go ahead, with the French ace signing a new deal at the Basque side and snubbing a move to the Premier League- which has seen Guardiola’s interest in Stones heat-up.

Meanwhile, United have already spent £30m to bring Eric Bailly to England from Villarreal but our landlord feels that’s just a drop in the ocean, as he predicts United will spend in excess of £200m this summer.
