Our Manchester City and Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for their side to get going this season as both feel that they can win the Premier League title.
The two sides have certainly gone about the summer transfer market differently with City spending big on the likes of Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker – from Spurs – whilst Tottenham are yet to sign anyone.
It remains to be seen, then, as to which transfer policy works out best over the coming season but Spurs might be about to take a leaf out of City’s book and actually go to sign someone.
They’ll have to battle the Citizens to do so, though, with the Daily Star claiming that the pair are both interested in signing Ross Barkley from Everton.
The England international looks set to leave Everton with Ronald Koeman saying earlier this month that the player wants to leave but where he ends up is anything but certain.
Spurs will surely be the most eager to bring him in, though, with their squad looking exactly the same as it did when they finished second last year.
Barkley is going to leave Everton before the end of this window – that is looking more than likely – but where he ends up is anyone’s guess.
Spurs and City seem the favourites, though, and of the two it is surely Spurs who need him more.
City have a wealth of talent throughout their squad, now, whilst Spurs still need those extra couple of players to compete in Europe and domestically – Barkley would be ideal.
