The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a few big signings this summer, and this one would certainly be a good start…
According to Sport, Man City are set to be the first side to launch a move for Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin, with the Citizens likely to need a move of at least €40 million (£34.6million) to secure a deal from the Gunners.
A move for Bellerin certainly makes sense for Man City for a number of reasons. The most obvious of these surrounds their current defensive situation, with the likes of Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta both set to leave at the end of the season, whilst continued uncertainty surrounding Vincent Kompany has left the fans in the pub on a knife-edge. Clearly, a defensive rebuild is needed at the Etihad this summer, and the first major new recruit could be Bellerin.
For Bellerin’s part, he has impressed for the Gunners so far this season, delivering consistent and impressive performances for an otherwise disappointing team.
It must be noted, of course, that Pep Guardiola has a strong relationship with Barcelona – the side in which Bellerin grew up – and so that could play a role in negotiations.
