The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to an exciting summer…
The recent capture of Bernardo Silva has really wet the appetites of the fans in the pub, with many expecting the midfielder to be the first of many signings at the club this summer.
Another signing could be coming sooner rather than later, too, with the Times reporting that the Citizens are planning to make a big money move for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk. A move of around £50 million could apparently be made this summer, with a whopping £180,000-per-week contract offer also potentially on the table.
This is the sort of news that the fans in the Transfer Tavern have been waiting for, with Man City’s defence clearly the weakest area in the first team. The likes of Clichy and Zabaleta have already left the club, and so a rebuild at the back is certainly needed – and van Dijk could be the perfect player to lead that charge.
For his part, van Dijk has emerged over the last year or two as one of Europe’s finest defenders, really proving his worth at Southampton. Powerful in the air, strong in the tackle and a real leader – the Dutchman could be a real star at the Etihad.
Our landlord is expecting the race for van Dijk to be a hotly contested one this season, although, with this sort of money – Man City may lead the charge.
