Manchester City could still lose winger Leroy Sane this summer as Bayern Munich continue to press ahead with plans to snap him up.
Sane has been touted for a move away from the Etihad all summer but it was thought that City had done enough to ward Bayern off any potential deal for the German international.
However, as reported by Sky Sports News, the German giants remain confident of signing Sane, with the club believed to have held discussions with the young winger’s representatives over a move to the Allianz Arena.
The loss of Sane would represent a bitter blow to City manager Pep Guardiola, who has used the 23-year-old to brilliant effect in the last few seasons as City have dominated the English game.
Indeed, 10 goals and 10 assists last season despite not always being a starter further enhanced the reputation Sane has as one of the top young talents in the game, and Guardiola and his coaching team will be deeply upset to lose such a player.
Sane is a constant attacking threat and his goals, assists and dribbling ability – 1.8 successful dribbles per game (via WhoScored) – have undoubtedly helped City to become the dominant force in English football.
Things haven’t always been plain sailing for Sane though, with his Germany teammate Toni Kroos once calling him out for an apparent bad attitude.
This would be a shame for City in footballing terms, as the above suggests.
Not only is Sane a creator, but he has also proven himself to be a goalscorer. Those 10 league goals he scored in the Premier League last season followed the 10 goals he scored in the 2017/18 campaign.
Factor in his 1.8 dribbles per game, with only Raheem Sterling averaging more in Manchester City’s squad, and Guardiola could be losing a really dangerous attacking player here.
