The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern think that their side is on a fantastic path under Pep Guardiola…
The Spaniard has got his side playing very well, and a title challenge looks certain this term. It’s been a tough few years for the Citizens, with the goal of European supremacy still not yet achieved.
However, they’re definitely improving, and with Pep Guardiola clearly very invested in the project, things are looking very good for the Citizens now.
The Man City board clearly has big plans for the club, but a recent report from AS has proven their ambitions above anything that anyone could have expected in the pub. AS are reporting that Man City have held preliminary talks regarding a potential move for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, with the Argentine still yet to sign a long-term deal with his current club.
A move for Messi would, of course, put the rest of Europe on notice, and it would send shockwaves around their Premier League rivals – with the Argentine arguably the best player in world football. He has bagged 11 goals in just 7 league games so far this season, and he’s only getting better and better with age.
Of course, it goes without saying that this should be taken with a pinch of salt, given that if Messi gets his way he’d surely rather stay at home in Barcelona, but stranger things have happened in football lately. The transfer of Neymar, which everyone in the pub deemed as impossible, passed by relatively smoothly in the summer. This has got the Man City fans in the pub on the edge of their seats.
Again, it’s not quite time to go to the megastore and buy a new shirt with Messi on the back, nor is it the time to put the champagne on ice – but it’s clearly a very exciting report for Man City supporters.
With Pep Guardiola at the helm, the Etihad could be an attractive option for Messi, but the reality is that this deal remains unlikely.
That said, if he doesn’t sign a new deal, then anything could happen.
