Man City eye move for highly-rated defender; Guardiola plotting summer bid

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see some pretty immediate action from Pep Guardiola…

Despite an impressive start to the Premier League season, Man City have gone off the rails somewhat over the last couple of months, and are currently sat in 4th place – 7 points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea.

As a result, the City fans are pretty unanimous in their desire for their side to bring in a few new players, and with January bringing the re-opening of the transfer market, they definitely want to see a few new signings this month.

In particular, the defence is an area of concern for the Citizens – with many in the pub calling for the likes of Stones and Kolarov to be backed up with a bit more depth.

Unfortunately for the City fans in the Transfer Tavern, though, it would appear as though a permanent defensive upgrade will not be forthcoming this month – with Guardiola reportedly keen to hold out until the summer to land his priority target.

According to the Mirror, Man City are keen to make a summer move for Atletico Madrid defender Aymeric Laporte, who they had a move for turned down over the summer.

Laporte does have a £55 million buyout clause in his contract, but Guardiola seemingly sees the defender as his best option – and a move for him in the summer now looks inevitable, with the defender reportedly willing to consider his options at the end of the season.

Whilst the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern were hoping for immediate signings, most of them are willing to hold out for a player of Laporte’s quality. Undoubtedly one of Europe’s best young defenders, Laporte has been outstanding for Atletico Madrid this season – and with another completed season under his belt – he could come to the Etihad next summer as the complete defender.
