Our resident Manchester City fans were delighted with their 4-0 triumph over Aston Villa at the weekend. Despite their clean sheet, there have still been reports that City are going to spend big this summer, with The Sun reporting that the Blues will splash £80 million on two central defenders.
The report indicates that Pep Guardiola is looking to bring in John Stones and Aymeric Laporte from Everton and Athletic Bilbao respectively, in order to bolster his defence when he takes over this summer.
Stones and Laporte are widely regarded as being two of the top young centre backs in Europe, meaning that City may face competition from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and other English clubs.
City have spent vast amounts on central defenders in recent seasons, yet their best defender and captain Vincent Kompany cost just £6 million.
Meanwhile, the Blues spent around £70 million for defensive duo Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi, both of whom have struggled to maintain consistency.
Rumours amongst our punters over by the bar suggest that Guardiola wants to create a new look defence with several young players who will be long-term options for the Etihad outfit.
