Manchester City dropped their first points of the season against Wolves on Saturday afternoon as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Molineux and one of the standout performers in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has caught the eye of the City hierarchy according to a recent report.
According to a report from Goal’s Man City correspondent Sam Lee, Ruben Neves has emerged as a target for City as they continue their hunt for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, although they are concerned that Manchester United will try and gazump them in their pursuit.
After clearly demonstrating he was a class above in the Championship last season, Neves has began the season in fine form for the Wanderers and is slowly starting to establish a fantastic understanding with his midfield partner and compatriot Joao Moutinho.
City had initially planned on signing Jorginho to bolster their options in defensive midfield, but Chelsea thwarted their attempt and secured his signature following months of intense speculation linking him with a move to the Etihad.
Pep Guardiola will certainly hope that City will not lose out on their primary target again if they decide that Neves is the right man to bring in, but United’s success in hijacking City’s bid for Alexis Sanchez earlier this year suggests that lightning could yet strike twice.
In response to the reports, the Citizens faithful turned out in their numbers on Twitter to call for their club to sign Neves which is hardly surprising after the 21-year-old prodigy’s excellent display last weekend.
Here’s what the Man City fans on Twitter have had to say in response to reports linking them with Ruben Neves…
Been long wondering why City haven't gone for Neves already.
Love this…just hope Neves isn't stupid enough to pick the dismal United over glittering City at this point.

He is like KDB in my opinion. I suggest that we sell Ilkai and buy Nevez
