Our resident Manchester City fans have been drowning their sorrows with a pint after another disappointing defeat at the weekend, but they could soon be raising their glasses in celebration following the latest reports.
The Daily Mirror reported that Barcelona have pulled out of a deal to sign Paul Pogba, leaving Manchester City in pole position to sign the Juventus midfielder.
The report suggests that the Catalan giants had a provisional deal in place for the Juventus midfielder, worth over £85 million.
However, the Camp Nou side are expected to withdraw from the deal and instead focus their attentions on a young centre back.
One punter over by the bar points out that Barcelona will also be looking over their should as they seek to keep hold of their own players who are City targets, including Lionel Messi, Neymar and Sergio Busquets, by offering them new contracts.
This would not be financially viable should they complete the signing of Pogba, with the 22-year old expected to demand a wage of around £250,000 per week.
Now it is believed that Guardiola will have to compete with just Zidane’s Real Madrid in order to sign his target, who is a favourite amongst the City contingent in the Tavern to replace Yaya Toure.
