Man City handed big boost in transfer pursuit with Guardiola still keen on move

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hungry for a few more big names to move to the Etihad this summer…

Luckily for them, they have reportedly received a boost in that regard, with the Mirror reporting that their chances of Alexis Sanchez have increased this summer. According to the Mirror, the interest from Bayern Munich has subsided because of Arsenal’s demands – with the Gunners reportedly expecting £50 million+ for the player.

In theory, this gives the Citizens a more direct route to sealing the deal, though it isn’t quite as simple as that. Bayern Munich have dropped out of the race for a very legitimate reason, and so Pep Guardiola will have to decide whether Sanchez is worth the sort of money that is being discussed. He would be available on a free in a year, let’s not forget, so a fee of over £50 million might not be best for business.

That being said, Bayern Munich are in a very different position to Man City at present. The Sky Blues are embarking on a new era under Guardiola, and whilst last season was a transitional campaign, they will be expected to win trophies next season – and Sanchez is the sort of player that you need in order to achieve that.

Certainly, our landlord thinks that Man City could afford the deal, but it remains to be seen whether they will actually go for it. After all, they already have captured Bernardo Silva this summer, not to mention the current crop of attacking midfielders already on the books.
