Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern so far this season given their side’s incredible campaign to date, which they hope will continue to get better with Carabao Cup quarter-final success this evening.
Pep Guardiola’s men made it 16 successive Premier League victories by easing past Tottenham 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with a brace from Raheem Sterling as well as strikes from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne securing a comfortable win for the hosts. That result maintained their 11-point lead at the summit at the conclusion of the weekend, yet their attentions will turn to their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium this evening, with Guardiola going in search of his first trophy as City boss, but knowing that they’ll have to be at their best to beat Claude Puel’s rapidly improving Foxes tonight.
Subsequently, there are many happy Citizens fans in the Tavern and several of which are relishing this evening’s game, while they are also likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which suggests that the league leaders have joined the heavyweight race for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
The 25-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Eagles in the last 18 months or so, having netted seven goals and laying on 11 assists in their survival campaign last season, while he has already bagged four times this term to suggest that he’ll play a significant part in their chances of avoiding the drop this time round as well.
As such, interest has been mounting in the Ivory Coast international in recent times, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham thought to be keeping tabs on Zaha, and recent reports suggest that Guardiola’s City are also in the race for the forward.
And with the January transfer window just a few weeks away, it very much remains to be seen whether the £40 million-rated attacking ace remains at Selhurst Park come February 1.
Landlord’s verdict: Wilfried Zaha played a massive part in keeping Crystal Palace in the Premier League last season, and early indications suggest that he will do so again this time round.
Four goals in 12 Premier League appearances as well as a whole host of impressive displays has helped Roy Hodgson’s men move out of the bottom three, and at the same time has increased the interest in the Ivorian’s services what with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham thought to be monitoring his progress.
And recent reports suggest that Manchester City are also in the running, and with the Citizens marching towards the title as well as a clearly bright future to come under manager Pep Guardiola, they may well feel confident of landing the £40 million-rated star in the coming transfer windows.
