Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Sergio Busquets ahead of a potential summer move, after The Daily Star reported that Barcelona are stalling on increasing his wage, much to the delight of the Blues fans in the Tavern.
The Spanish international is widely regarded as one of the world’s best defensive midfielders, something which he believes to be worth a pay rise.
He currently earns around 120,000 per week but word around the Tavern suggests that he would like a 25% pay rise in order to match the likes of Neymar and Iniesta, despite his contract lasting until 2019.
However, Barcelona are currently stalling a number of high profile players in their pursuit of renewed deals as they deal with financial constraints and City could be set to capitalise on the issue, with money no object in their transfer proceedings.
City’s rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are also believed to be interested, although an expected lack of Champions League football for both teams next season could discourage the 27-year old from making a move.
Our landlord believes that the sky blues are the most likely team to capture Busquets, with the additional lure of former Barca boss Pep Guardiola who is taking over next term.
Manchester City fans, would Busquets be the ideal midfield signing for Guardiola? Let us know in the comments below!
