Manchester City fans will be delighted with the latest news emerging from Eastlands.

Fresh from their defeat against Lyon in the Champions League, City announced that legendary striker, Sergio Aguero, has penned a new contract with the champions. The Argentine put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2021. The news will be well received by the City fans as the former Atletico Madrid man remains a key player under Pep Guardiola.

More contracts could be on the way as City look to tie down their prized assets for the long-term future. City made just one major signing during the summer transfer window, and Guardiola may be in the market for new recruits in January. With Kevin De Bruyne sidelined with an injury and David Silva approaching the end of his career, a new playmaker would be a useful addition.

The perfect signing could be Flamengo wonderkid – Lucas Paqueta. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest talents emerging from Brazil and has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Paqueta has scored six goals and registered six assists this season, earning him a place in Brazil’s senior national team.

City must do everything in their power to beat their arch-rivals to Paqueta’s signature. The Brazilian has excellent dribbling ability and an eye for a pass. As well as his technical ability, Paqueta also has a fantastic work-rate, making him ideal for the Premier League. Working under a world-class manager like Guardiola could do wonders his development.

City found success with buying from Brazil in the past; now they must help Paqueta follow in the footsteps of Gabriel Jesus. Indeed, he could even grow to replace an ageing Silva in the future.
