The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are still reeling after their dramatic loss to Everton over the weekend…
Whilst the Citizens were expected to get a dominant win over the disappointing Toffees, Ronald Koeman masterminded a spellbinding performance against Pep Guardiola’s men – with Everton very good value for their 4-0 win.
However, since the conclusion of the game – the emphasis has failed to shine much of a light upon Everton’s performance – with many instead criticising the poor defensive display of Man City. The Citizens have been poor defensively this season, with this game arguably their worst yet.
It would appear as though Pep Guardiola is well aware of his side’s defensive frailties, with reports, via the Sun, emerging over the weekend in the lead up to the game suggesting that Tottenham defender Ben Davies could be on his way to the Etihad.
According to the Sun, Pep Guardiola has been plotting a £20 million move for Davies as he looks to improve his defensive depth, with the Sky Blues seriously struggling at the back this season.
Man City have been on fire this season offensively, but their poor defensive displays have been a real drawback of Pep Guardiola’s reign. The absence of Vincent Kompany is, undoubtedly, having a pretty significant impact – whilst the likes of Otamendi and Kolarov are both struggling for form.
Our landlord thinks that a few defensive recruits are essential if Man City are to challenge at the highest level – and Ben Davies would certainly be a good start.
