Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have let out a huge groan today, after it became apparent that Manchester City could be snatching one of their iconic fan-favourites.
The Manchester Evening News states Manchester City are leading the race to sign retiring Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta as a coach, with incoming boss Pep Guardiola keen to add the veteran Spaniard to his staff next season.
Arteta waved goodbye to Arsenal, and his playing career, at the weekend but is expected to remain within football as a coach, with a number of sides valuing his experience and insight- therefore eyeing his services.
Arsenal have already offered him a non-playing deal but Arteta could jump at the chance to work with Guardiola, who is arguably the biggest manager in world football, and it would see the Gunners lose another member of their valued squad.
The Gunners have already seen Highbury hero Patrick Vieire create close ties with the Citizens, whilst the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and Gilberto Silva have roles with other clubs.
Should Arsenal do all they can to keep Arteta? Let us know in the comments below!
