Our resident Manchester City fans have put down their pints and crowded around the papers at the bar, where they’re reading an intriguing transfer story.
A report by The Sun suggests that the Blues are preparing a move to make West Ham United star Dimitri Payet the first signing for Pep Guardiola, who takes charge at the Etihad Stadium from the end of the season.
City are believed to be interested in the West Ham star as they look to complete a huge overhaul of their squad this summer.
The Sun believe that City have already begun their pursuit of the Frenchman and are said to be willing to shell out up to £30 million.
Payet only moved to Upton Park last year in a £10 million move and has since demonstrated his ability through a series of impressive performances, scoring 6 goals and assisting 4 more in the league so far for the London club.
The Hammers will therefore want the 28-year old to move with them to the Olympic Stadium next season, instead of moving to a rival club.
They are said to be well aware of City’s interest, amongst other outfits including Arsenal and Chelsea, whilst an unnamed Chinese side are reportedly prepared to pay £38 million for the midfielder.
However, West Ham are confident that they can keep hold of their man and admitted today that they have already begun negotiations regarding a new five-year contract.
One punter over by the darts board has pointed out that West Ham are not in a position where they have to sell Payet and could initiate a bidding war between the interested parties.
