As the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern opened up their papers this morning, they were met with quite a shock…
It has been all quiet on the transfer front for the Citizens so far this month, but it looks like things are picking up steam at the Etihad – and fast.
According to Croation outlet Jutarnji List, Man City are closing in on a surprise move for Barcelona playmaker Ivan Rakitic, with Guardiola reportedly looking to find a solution to Gundogan’s long-term injury layoff.
The Croation midfielder was left out of Barcelona’s team at the weekend, leaving many in the Tavern to speculate that a deal might be imminent, though as of yet there is no confirmation on the transfer – with the deal reportedly on the ‘threshold’ of being completed.
News of this proposed deal has delighted the Man City fans in the Tavern, many of whom tout Rakitic as one of Europe’s best midfielders. An expert with the ball at his feet, Rakitic can find his teammates with incredible accuracy and has proven himself as an expert technician in the heart of the midfield with the Catalan giants – meaning that he would undoubtedly be a hit in the Premier League with Man City.
Rakitic has impressed this season, and Guardiola will be hoping that he can continue his fine form should he make the move to the Premier League.
Our landlord isn’t so sure that a deal is imminent, but he thinks that there is rarely smoke without fire – so he has instructed his Man City loving punters to watch this space.
Man City fans – thoughts?
