For the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern, another trophy-less season will not be tolerated…
Despite a strong start to the 2016/17 season, the Citizens fell off in the race for Premier League glory, with teams including Tottenham and Chelsea looking far superior to the Manchester-based outfit.
A turnaround will clearly be needed this summer, then, as Guardiola looks to rectify the situation next season, and it seems clear that a spending spree could be forthcoming at the Etihad this summer. For that to come to pass, though, the Sky Blues will need to generate some funds, and according to the Telegraph, one midfielder could be sacrificed.
According to the Telegraph, Man City are ready to sell Fabian Delph this summer, with the club reportedly looking to receive close to £12 million for the midfielder. With Guardiola likely to rebuild his side next season, there is clearly no place for Delph, and so not only will a sale free up some space in the squad – but it will also contribute to City’s transfer budget.
It has been a disappointing spell in Manchester for the 27-year-old, with the Englishman one of several talented players that has been limited to a bit-part role at the Etihad in recent years. Plagued by injury whilst also having to compete with some of Europe’s most talented players, it was always going to be tough for him.
That being said, his talent is clear for all to see, and our landlord thinks that if he can shake off his injury problems, he could certainly do a job at a lower level Premier League side.
