Man City reportedly keen on agreeing terms with 27-year-old, Guardiola is a big fan

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been so impressed with Fabian Delph this season…

The Englishman’s tenure in Manchester has been very stop-start, with a regular place in the first team evading him for much of his time at the club. Indeed, over the summer, it was expected that he would move on – with none of the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern able to see a way for him to break into the first team.

However, he has surpassed all expectations with his performances this season, and perhaps most shockingly of all, he has done it whilst playing as a left-back.

With Benjamin Mendy out with a long-term knee injury, Delph was put in the role as a stop-gap option, but he has taken his chance and run with it. An outstanding performance against Chelsea as his team won 1-0 was the icing on the cake to a few weeks of excellence from the Englishman.

It shows just how quickly careers can change in the Premier League, and according to the Sun, another massive change could be forthcoming.

The Sun reports that Delph could be in line for a new deal at Man City. Though conversations are yet to begin, they could be on the way, and a source has revealed that if he stays fit, an agreement could certainly be reached. Significantly, Pep Guardiola is said to be a fan of both his form and attitude, and that bodes well for him.

Though typically a central midfielder, Delph has excelled in his new-found role, and given that Mendy may not play again this season, he could have a very long time to prove his worth in the position. He’s clearly a very talented player, and at last, after all these years, he could have finally found his role in the Man City squad.

Landlord’s Verdict

Delph’s quality was never in doubt. At Aston Villa, he was sensational.

However, he has hardly played over the last few years, and so he’s only going to get better and better as he gets more chances.

That said, a new deal might not be particularly wise, given that it seems unlikely that he’ll continue to be a regular following Mendy’s return. If he keeps his form up between now and then, though, perhaps a role elsewhere could be found. He’d no doubt love to return to the midfield if he gets a chance.

On current form, though, he deserves everything that might come his way.
