The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big changes at the Etihad this summer, and no position could see as much movement as amongst the goalkeepers…
Claudio Bravo has largely performed poorly this year, whilst Joe Hart’s tenure at Man City looks over once he concludes his loan in Italy. Willy Caballero, meanwhile, has impressed when given a chance this year – though he has typically had to play second-fiddle to Bravo for much of the campaign. However, it is Caballero that is reportedly the topic of discussion at Man City at present.
According to the Sun, Caballero has been offered a one-year deal to stay at the club this summer, though it is noted that the goalkeeper is looking for game time assurances before he commits his future.
Certainly, that is a wise move from Caballero, with the goalkeeper mightily impressive whenever he has played this season. Though far well less known than is typical for Man City first teamers, Caballero has certainly deserved more of a role than he has received this year – with his fine performances often reflecting in clean sheets and excellent shot-stopping displays.
The Citizens are never afraid to spend, though, and so they could well go out and sign a new top goalkeeper this summer, at which point Caballero would likely find himself back on the bench.
Our landlord thinks that he is more than good enough to play a starring role elsewhere.
