Man City reportedly ‘make contact’ as Guardiola considers move for one of Europe’s best players

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure that this season could be going any better than it is right now. Pep Guardiola’s men are on fire in the English top flight, and given that they’re now eight points clear of Man Utd in second place, they look to be on course for a real title challenge this term.

Pep Guardiola, though, despite all of the quality in his squad – doesn’t appear completely happy with what is at his disposal. Rather, he is also said to be keen on one of Europe’s best players, at least according to Sport. Sport reports that Man City are amongst the clubs to have ‘made contact’ with Atletico Madrid regarding a move for Antoine Griezmann, who has cemented his place as one of Europe’s best forwards in recent years.

Griezmann’s future has been uncertain for a while now, with many of the fans in the Transfer Tavern expecting the Frenchman to leave Madrid last summer. That didn’t happen, though, and so speculation is only going to ramp up over the next few months, especially leading into January.

An attacking player, Griezmann bagged 16 league goals last season, emerging as Atletico Madrid’s best player in the process. Though the Citizens have a lot of attacking depth, Guardiola clearly wouldn’t be wise to turn down that sort of quality if it is available.

Landlord’s Verdict

A move for Griezmann could well depend on the future of Sergio Aguero, given that Man City typically play with just one centre-forward. Though a trio of Aguero, Griezmann and Gabriel Jesus would be deadly, that’s arguably too much quality to fill just one position, and so Aguero’s future will be key.

That said, Greiezmann would be a great fit, not to mention the fact that with Man Utd also reportedly keen, the Citizens will want to get one over on their local rivals if they can.
