Man City reportedly set to move for £17m-rated PL man after sealing Mendy deal

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are celebrating this evening…

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Benjamin Mendy had joined the Citizens from Monaco, and given that some fans are still celebrating the capture of Kyle Walker, our landlord is expecting the Transfer Tavern to be full of City loving punters over the coming days.

According to Graeme Bailey of the Gambling Times, however, there could be more to come at the Etihad. Bailey reports that Man City are now set to set their sights on Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand – with Pep Guardiola keen to add even more depth to the Man City defence.

Bertrand – who is rated at £17m by Transfer Markt – has, of course, been a standout figure at St Mary’s for some time now, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best defenders. That said, given Mendy’s capture, our landlord isn’t sure that the Englishman will be keen on a move, as he is likely to play second-fiddle to the Frenchman at the back.

Significantly, Chelsea are also said to be keen – with the Blues no doubt regretting their decision to move the Englishman on a few years ago.

For Man City, it has been a summer of evolution – with Mendy the latest in a long line of stars to move to the Etihad. With the additions of Ederson, Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker, they are sure to be a side to be reckoned with next season.
