Manchester City supporters have been reasonably quiet in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side suffer a first Premier League defeat of the season at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday, going down 4-3 in a thrilling contest at Anfield.
Pep Guardiola’s men went into their clash with the Merseyside giants having won 20 of their opening 22 league games, with Everton and Crystal Palace the only sides to take anything off the North West outfit prior to Sunday. Yet the Citizens succumbed to their first loss of the season as goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah secured the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side, yet it is unlikely to prevent City from going on to win the Premier League come May.
As such, there have been some deflated Citizens fans in the Tavern this week, yet they are likely to be interested and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which suggests that they have ‘expressed’ an interest in Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
The 24-year-old’s future has been subject of speculation for a while now given that his contract expires in the summer, and as of yet no extension has been agreed.
Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for the Germany international, who produced a wonderful performance in the Reds’ success over City on Sunday, and recent reports suggest that Guardiola’s men have shown an interest in landing the midfielder.
But with Can reportedly not keen on making the move to Juve, it very much remains to be seen what the future holds for the German star.
Landlord’s verdict: Emre Can was absolutely brilliant for Liverpool in their 4-3 victory over Manchester City last weekend, and it appears that Citizens chief Pep Guardiola very much liked what he saw from the 24-year-old.
And that’s because the Premier League leaders have reportedly ‘expressed’ an interest in landing the midfielder, whose contract at Anfield expires in the summer and as of yet hasn’t been extended.
Other sides are also thought to be interested, namely Juventus and Arsenal, but given the Reds’ win over City last weekend, and indeed the potential in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, Can may even be tempted to stay at Anfield beyond the summer.
Only time will tell how this transfer saga ends.
