Man City set for disappointment in potentially record-breaking transfer chase – report

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern have loved their side’s recent spending spree. Over the last 18 months, the Citizens haven’t been afraid to spend big – with players including Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Benjamin Mendy moving to the Etihad for big money.

They’ve essentially had free reign over some of Europe’s brightest talents, owing to their seismic transfer budget, but they look to be facing disappointment in their latest transfer chase.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea would reject any move from Man City for Eden Hazard – even one that would include a world-record transfer fee. To the contrary, the Blues are eager to tie down Hazard to a new deal – with a £300k-per-week likely to be on the cards if the Blues can convince him to stay.

Man City’s interest in Hazard is, at this point, simply that – interest. They likely don’t have an imminent plan to move for him, but he’s clearly a dream target for Pep Guardiola.

That’s no real surprise, given how good he has been for the Blues since moving to London. Providing exciting attacking play with incredible technique, the Belgian is undoubtedly one of Europe’s best.

Chelsea, though, appear desperate to hold on to him – unsurprisingly – and whilst a move to Real Madrid cannot be ruled out, Man City’s chances of landing the attacker appear to be very low.

Landlord’s Verdict

This isn’t much of a surprise. Chelsea won’t want to sell him under any circumstances, particularly to a Premier League rival.

Hazard’s future is uncertain, particularly given that he is yet to sign a new deal, but an imminent departure looks unlikely.

Man City should certainly be keeping tabs, particularly if he refuses to sign on, but a deal anytime soon looks very uncertain.
