Man City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are beaming as news has reached our taps that they are set to agree a record breaking fee to bring one of the most sought after players to the Etihad.
According to reports from The Times, Man City and Everton are on the verge of agreeing a fee for sought after defender, John Stones.
The Sky Blues boss, Pep Guardiola, has made his interest in the England international clear and The Times are suggesting that although the clubs still aren’t there yet with a deal, the Citizens will eventually meet The Toffees’ £50m valuation.
The 22-year-old has been one of the most sought after defenders of the last year, with Man United boss, Jose Mourinho chasing him whilst at Chelsea this summer and reportedly continuing his interest in his new job.
Should the £50m deal go through it would smash the record for the most expensive British defender of all time, set by the Red Devils when they bought Luke Shaw from Southampton in 2014.
City fans, we want to hear from you! What do you make of this news? How well would Stones fit in at The Etihad? Let us know in the comments below…
