Our resident Manchester City fans have been staggering over to the bar where there have been raised voices after many gathered around an article on the Manchester Evening News website which claims that the Blues could be set to sign Neymar.
The Barcelona star is currently contract at the Nou Camp until 2018, but the report claims that City could be set to meet his £145 million release clause and make him their marquee signing this summer.
An Etihad switch for the 24-year old would send shock-waves throughout world football and signal that City are prepared to do anything to support new manager Pep Guardiola when he arrives in the summer.
Our landlord believe that, should City land the signature of the Brazil ace, they would be genuine contenders for the prestigious Champions League trophy.
Footballing legend Ronaldinho also featured for Barca and Brazil during his illustrious career, and he has backed City’s rumoured launch of a determined pursuit of Neymar.
Neymar even recently admitted that he would love to play under Guardiola, who takes charge at City at the end of the season. Ronaldinho said:
“Neymar has already stated his desire to play for Pep. That was a big statement with most people knowing that Pep would be joining Manchester City in the summer. We know they can pay wages that no other club in Europe has the power to do.”
In addition, Neymar’s father stated in a court hearing last week that an English outfit had expressed their desire to sign his son in the January window.
And although it was widely reported that that club was City’s rivals Manchester United, the Blues’ fans around the Tavern will be hoping that the appointment of Guardiola could tip the balance in their favour.
With one punter over by the slot machines pointing out that David Silva has looked out of form recently and that winger Jesus Navas will probably depart once Guardiola arrives, Neymar could become a star at City.
