Man City set to rival fellow PL heavyweights for £17.5m-rated attacker – report

Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this season such has been their side’s incredible start to the campaign, with many eagerly anticipating their team’s clash with neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s men were heavily tipped to go on and win the Premier League title this term, and they have so far lived up to expectations by winning 14 of their opening 15 league matches, opening up an eight-point lead over rivals United ahead of Sunday’s showdown. However, the Citizens go into that clash of the back of their first defeat of the campaign, as Guardiola’s much-changed side went down 2-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine on Wednesday night, albeit they had secured top spot in Group F prior to that final game of the group stages.

Nonetheless, several of our resident City supporters have been in fine voice in the Tavern this week ahead of Sunday’s encounter, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from Hurriyet (via talkSPORT), which suggests that they have joined the race for Trabzonspor ace Yusuf Yazici.

The 20-year-old only made his senior debut for the Turkish outfit back in 2015 but has since gone from strength to strength with 44 further first team appearances for the club, in which time he has scored ten goals and laid on 16 assists.

And, unsurprisingly, the Turkey international has attracted the interest of several top English clubs in recent times, namely Arsenal and Tottenham, and reports suggest that City had scouts in attendance when Trabzonspor beat Antalyaspor on Monday, a game in which Yazici laid on an assist in a 3-0 win for his side.

And given City’s lofty league position and huge financial power, they may be able to convince the youngster of a move to the Etihad Stadium in the New Year.

Landlord’s verdict: Yusuf Yazici’s incredible rise at Trabzonspor in the last few years has certainly opened the eyes of several sides around Europe, with ten goals and 16 assists in just 45 games indicative of an attacker who has a bright future in the game.

Arsenal and Tottenham have reportedly been linked with the 20-year-old in recent times, while recent reports suggest that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have also joined the chase as they seek to bolster their ranks for both the present and the future.

And with the future looking particularly bright at the Etihad Stadium under the former Barcelona boss, Yazici could be persuaded by the Citizens, but whether Guardiola’s side are willing to match the reported £17.5 million price-tag remains to be seen.
