Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking for the team to go one better next season and win the Champions League, having dominated the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s side ran away with the title this season and many will feel that they are uncatchable unless they make heavy reinforcements this summer, although it appears the Etihad Stadium outfit also have the same ideas.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Guardiola’s side are stepping up the chase for Napoli midfielder Jorginho. The Premier League champions have already had a bid of around £44million rejected by the Serie A side, however, the Sky Blues are set to test the Italians resolve to keep one of their star players.
The Citizens would have been looking at getting their business done before the World Cup, or if not as soon as it finishes and would have been hoping to conclude a deal for Jorginho. With Italy not competing at this year’s tournament, the midfielder does not have any summer football to focus on, however, Napoli appears to be holding out.
It is thought the Serie A side could be prepared to hold out on a deal for the entire summer in order to try and keep their 26-year-old ace, however, Guardiola and his side rarely fail to get the transfer targets he wants and it will remain to be seen if they do indeed head back to the transfer table.
