The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Pep Guardiola will look to build on his team’s success with a few more signings in January. Guardiola has spent well since moving to Manchester, with some very impressive players moving to the Etihad. From Gabriel Jesus to Leroy Sane, the Spanish manager clearly knows what he is doing.
In January, then, he should look to bring in another new face or two, and one player that could be perfectly suited is Monaco star Fabinho.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Fabinho fits into a position in which Man City are desperately lacking depth. Fernandinho has had to be a near-constant in the side this term, providing the defensive spine to a team that is otherwise heavily focused on attacking. Fabinho, like Fernandinho, excels defensively, with his fantastic tackling, positioning and aerial presence paying dividends for Monaco in recent years.
Significantly, his versatility also allows him to play in defence, and given Guardiola’s lack of options here, he would be a worthy choice in this role, too. When Man City are facing some of Europe’s better sides, both within the Premier League and in continental competition, the Brazilian could be just what they need.
Man City’s squad is full of quality, but there is no doubting that Fabinho – who is rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt – would improve Guardiola’s options. At 24-years-old, he’s a regular in France, and he can be a regular for Man City for the best part of a decade if the manager chooses to bring him in.
