Manchester City

Man City simply must a avoid a move for £55.25m-rated ace this summer – here’s why

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are very excited at the prospect of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moving to the Etihad…

Of course, the Gabon international is one of Europe’s most deadly forwards, becoming a real force in the attack for Borussia Dortmund as of late. However, despite this, a move to the Etihad doesn’t really make a lot of sense.

For starters, you just have to consider Man City’s current wave of attacking players. Aubameyang is a player that would demand to play every week, and that would mean one of Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero missing out. Man City rarely feature any more than one striker, and there is a case to suggest that both Jesus and Aguero should be starting every week. Aguero’s record is second to none, whilst Jesus is one of the most talented young players in world football, leaving Guardiola in a very tough spot. It is also tough to suggest that Aubameyang is a direct upgrade on Aguero in particular, with the Argentine rivalling the Gabon forward with regards to his goalscoring record.

At 28-years-old, Aubameyang isn’t exactly a spring chicken anymore either, and so he is unlikely to be a long-term option for the Citizens. When you consider that he is rated at £55.25 million by Transfer Markt, any fee is likely to equal or indeed go above that number, and financially, that doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.

His arrival would certainly be a statement, but in terms of wise decisions, it ranks fairly lowly for Man City this summer.
