The Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still eyeing an Etihad return for this City legend…
Pep Guardiola’s decision to drop Joe Hart on the opening day of the season was a shocker to everyone here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
He had been a constant in the City setup for years and had watched Manchester City’s rise to the top from between the sticks every step of the way.
When Hart was loaned to Torino last week, many of the Manchester City fans here in the Tavern had hoped that his departure was temporary.
They hoped that a year away from the club would give Hart time to hone his craft and get back into the good books of Pep Guardiola – but that doesn’t look set to be the case.
According to the Sun, Joe Hart could be set for a Man City departure next summer, with the English goalkeeper seemingly not in the plans of Pep Guardiola going forward.
However, it isn’t all bad news for the English shot-stopper…
The term used by the publication to describe the fee is ‘considerate’, which our bar staff are suggesting could be between the £10-25 million pound mark – definitely a ‘considerate’ fee considering that he will turn 30 next year.
Significantly, City are also reportedly willing to work out some form of severance package for the veteran shot-stopper, in a move to ensure that the club and player remain on good terms.
Our landlord thinks that this is hugely significant for Joe, as his reduced transfer fee will not only allow him to negotiate a higher wage packet with his new club, but it might also open the door for some financially-starved European clubs to show Hart their hand.
It will also ensure that Hart and City do not end their magnificent career together on bad terms.
One particularly vocal Manchester City fan here in the Tavern has proclaimed that whilst he supports the fact that his club are supporting Hart; letting him go for a low fee could prove to their detriment.
As the table above, courtesy of whoscored.com, suggests, Hart has been a near constant in the Man City first team, whilst his form has remained consistent over recent years.
A cut-price fee might not be the wisest decision considering his excellent, consistent form.
All this talk around the Tavern about Joe Hart being past it appears to be a pure fabrication…
Our landlord thinks that whoever manages to bag Joe Hart next summer will, without doubt, be getting one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Man City fans – we want to hear from you! Pleased to see Hart get treated well? Does he deserve another chance?
