He is a fan favourite amongst the Man City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
Vincent Kompany has struggled with injury as of late, and his lack of game time could finally be about to catch up with him.
According to the Telegraph, Guardiola is losing patience with the Man City captain, who has been largely unavailable since his arrived at the club in the summer.
They are reporting that not only does Kompany need to prove his fitness to Guardiola to stay at the club long-term, but he also needs to prove that he can align with the Spaniard’s philosophy – in that he is capable of playing from the back.
It has been quite the fall from grace for the Belgian defender, who has imperative to Man City’s success during their early success following the arrival of Sheikh Mansour.
His inability to see out the EFL Cup tie against Man Utd appears to have played a factor, with the Belgian requesting to be taken off at half-time.
Given that Kompany was largely undroppable a couple of years ago, the Man City fans in the Tavern are still hopeful that he will be able to play on under Guardiola – but they fear if he does not get back to full fitness soon, he could be set for the chop.
Kompany’s league appearences have been decreasing dramatically in recent years due to injury, having made just 13 and 23 Premier League starts in the last 2 years respectively.
Could this be the end of Kompany? Our landlord isn’t so sure…
