Man City suffer significant injury setback as West Brom clash looms

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been fearing the worst regarding the status of Leroy Sane over the last day or so. The German suffered an injury against Cardiff over the weekend, leading to concern over his fitness.

It would be a significant loss for the Citizens if he were to miss a prolonged run of games, given that he has been crucial for Pep Guardiola’s men this season.

Unfortunately, though, that looks set to be the case – according to Pep Guardiola. According to the official Man City Twitter, Guardiola has revealed that Sane looks set to miss up to six weeks with the injury – meaning that he will miss a crucial run of fixtures for the Citizens.

It certainly could have been worse for the midfielder, but this is still a considerable setback for Man City.

He has made 17 starts in the Premier League this season, and he has scored 7 goals and assisted 10 times in that period. He’s emerged as one of Man City’s best players, and so he won’t be easy to replace.

Big games against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are likely to be missed by the German international, leaving Guardiola with quite the selection dilemma.

Landlord’s Verdict

This is a big blow.

They have the quality and strength in depth to deal with his absence, but that doesn’t take away from its significance.

Bernardo Silva is likely to need to step up and make a name for himself, as this is the opening he has been waiting for.
