Our resident Liverpool and Manchester City fans have been rushing to the bar for different reasons as the Reds look to drown their sorrows and the Blues prepare to celebrate, after an article by ESPN quoted Granit Xhaka as saying that he would find it ‘difficult’ to reject a move to City.
The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder will know all about the capability of the City team, after they completed two comeback wins over his side in the Champions League group stages this term.
With the imminent arrival of Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, the current Bayern Munich boss is believed to be keen on bringing the 23-year old with him from Germany in the summer, although he may face competition from former Borussia Dortmund and now Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
However, the City fans around the Tavern will be delighted to hear that Xhaka has admitted that it would be ‘difficult’ to reject a move to City, with the Switzerland international believed to be open to a transfer away from Gladbach should he be assured regular first-team football.
“I can only speak for myself, but at my age I would never go to China, for no money in the world. The sporting perspective and everything else would need to be right. Honestly, you want experience such a positive vibe, such a togetherness in football often. That counts too.
“And should I one day want to make the next step, it also has to be an improvement. But true, it’s difficult to say no when Manchester City want you and you could play there. That much I have to admit. But I certainly not the only one.”
Xhaka is currently contracted with the Bundesliga outfit until 2019, with an option for a further year, whilst he reportedly has a €30 million release clause that will become active in the summer of 2017.
