Manchester City will return to Champions League action on Wednesday when they host Hoffenheim at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side have already secured their place in the next round of the competition and although it could be an ideal time to play some of his younger talents, it appears he will be without some of his more senior stars.
The £27million-rated star, as per Transfermarkt, picked up a hamstring injury during their defeat to Chelsea at the weekend and has not been made available for the game on Wednesday.
Silva joins the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Danilo, Sergio Aguero, Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo on the sidelines as their injury concerns start to pile up.
Silva’s absence will have been a huge blow to Guardiola and City heading into the festive period, as the playmaker could be out for the next couple of weeks.
Although the game against Hoffenheim does not have anything riding on it, the Citizens will want to bounce back from their defeat to Chelsea as quickly as possible.
The game could be the perfect opportunity for some of the club’s youngsters to get the chance to shine and show Guardiola what they can do in the senior side if given the chance to do so.
