Manchester City fans have endured a mixed affair this season, although they’re making waves in Europe as they prepare for a semi-final showdown with Real Madrid.
City are now known for their financial power and are expected to spend millions of pounds in the summer and now, German outlet Bild via The Manchester Evening news state the first signing is nearing completion and that player is Ilkay Gundogan.
Ilkay Gundogan will reportedly be Pep’s first signing for City this summer in a massive overhaul for the club, according to reports in England and Germany.
Although his current club Borussia Dortmund refuses to confirm that a deal is near, City football director Txiki Begiristain recently met with Gundogan’s uncle and agent Ilhan in Amsterdam and was pictured doing so, it has now been reported that the transfer is nearing completion and only a fee between the clubs stand in the way.
Reports say the 25-year-old German international will join City on a five year contract, the fee for the player will reportedly be around €30m. Gundogan is seen as an ideal replacement for Yaya Toure who is almost certain to leave the Etihad at the end of the season.
Although rumors of a bid are imminent, Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel has denied any reports and insist the transfer hasn’t been completed. He said:
“I can’t confirm the transfer. And shouldn’t it be the other way round? We have to announce it”.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc also insisted the reports are away of the mark. He said the club “are not interested in giving any water level reports” a reference.
Although the club have failed to confirm the transfer of Gundogan, it seems increasingly likely that he will join the Blues this summer.
