Man City veteran yet to have talks regarding long-term future

For the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern, this Man City defender deserves a permanent place within the club…

Since arriving in 2008, Pablo Zabaleta has become somewhat of a cult hero to the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern.

Consistently putting in solid performances week after week, Zabaleta has rarely taken the headlines – but he has quietly gone about his business and performed, and he has won a host of trophies in the process.

Now, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season – fears in the Transfer Tavern are rife that he could be set to leave the club.

According to Manchester Evening News, Zabaleta has yet to hold talks about his future at the club – and he has revealed that he will wait until the end of the season before beginning those discussions.

He said: “I’m enjoying it [playing regularly again] but I know that at the end of the season we need to decide about my future. Maybe now after half of the season it’s better to keep working hard and try to give my best for the team”.

Whilst Zabaleta is seemingly keen to stay at the club and begin discussions, it doesn’t seem to be a particularly high priority for the Man City man.

That being said, the Argentinian defender has found an increasingly significant role under Guardiola has of late – and so performing well until the end of the season might get him a better deal than he first expected.

He has made 6 Premier League starts so far this season, which when considering he made just 12 last season is a pretty impressive start.

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see even more of him as the season goes on.
