The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been waxing lyrical about the performances of Leroy Sane this season, but they believe he still has another level to reach.
Leroy Sane deservedly claimed the PFA Young Player of the Year award this season following a series of exhilarating displays on the left-side of City’s attacking front-three. The German international’s combination of blistering pace, agility and dazzling dribbling served as a menace to Premier League back-lines for the entirety of the season.
Sane finished the campaign with an astonishing record of 14 goals and 19 assists from 49 appearances in all-competitions for the club and, considering he is only 22-years-old, the best is yet to come. However, he was largely unchallenged for a starting berth this season as Raheem Sterling made the right-wing position his own, but that could all be set to change next season.
According to reports in The Daily Star, Pep Guardiola is eager to bring Wilfried Zaha (valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt) to the Etihad Stadium this summer after the 25-year-old played an instrumental role in Crystal Palace’s survival bid. The Ivory Coast international has been in phenomenal form for the Eagles on the left-side of midfield and as a centre-forward, and his versatility in attacking positions is certainly a quality which Guardiola seeks from his players.
Considering City have been overly reliant on Sane at times, Zaha’s presence would be a breath of fresh air as his preference to cut inside from the left would create plenty of space for Benjamin Mendy to exploit down the left-flank. With scintillating speed, direct dribbling and a constantly improving end-product to bring to the table, Zaha would be a fantastic option for City to target this summer.
The Citizens have certainly not been short of quality options in forward positions this season, but there is room for another versatile attacker to join the ranks, and on the evidence of his performances for Palace during the past two seasons, Zaha is a perfect candidate to challenge Sane for a starting berth and provide Guardiola with a fresh dynamic in the final-third.
