Manchester United may be ruled out of the running for the Premier League trophy this season, but with FA Cup and Champions League glory still very much on the horizon, manager Jose Mourinho will look to utilise the January transfer window to provide his squad with a timely boost.
United have looked lacklustre at times, struggling to break down opposition who choose to sit ten men behind the ball for ninety minutes, and have lacked the killer edge rivals Manchester City have shown in the league this term. Mourinho will look to address this, and install new quality to his squad. One area United fans here in The Transfer Tavern highlighted as an area of need was the middle of the park, with our landlord sitting down with the Old Trafford faithful to brainstorm the perfect addition to sit alongside the likes of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba. Many names were touted, before an Eastern European gem entered the conversation.
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has shone in the Champions League this season, with his fine form helping the Ukrainian giants to the knockout stages of the competition where they will take on Roma. The 24-year-old joined the club from Internacional in his homeland in 2013, and has fast become one of the most promising midfielders in European football. For Fred to progress however, he must leave the confines of Ukrainian football, which has served its purpose for the player in bringing him to Europe. A move to a top European league must know be on the cards, with United the perfect destination for the player.
Linked with Man City, it’s imperative Mourinho wins this transfer tussle.
Mourinho needs perhaps four more quality signings to ensure his starting XI is up to scratch, and Fred could be the man to solve all of Jose’s problems in the middle of the park, with his tenacious play designed for Premier League football.
