Supporters of Manchester United and Chelsea in the Transfer Tavern may have to lessen their expectations this window, after it emerged that one of their prime targets has a vast array of top clubs to choose from.
The Sun states Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich will join the hunt for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, should he become available, handing the two Premier League sides massive competition in the market.
Bale’s future in the Spanish capital continues to be surrounded in scrutiny, with the latest details stating that he is unhappy that Rafael Benitez was sacked on Monday evening.
The Welshman has heavily been linked with a return to the Premier League but any transfer coup will not be easy to secure, with Bale having his pick of some of the finest clubs in European football.
A potential problem for Manchester United and Chelsea is the potential lack of Champions League football, which Bale is likely to demand. Whereas Bayern and PSG are guaranteed a spot in the competition, and will go far, both Premier League stars face an immense fight to return to Europe’s elite tournament.
United seem most likely to land a top-four spot, though they must improve, whilst Chelsea need a miracle as they sit at the wrong end of the Premier League table.
