Whilst all the headlines regarding Manchester United and Liverpool orientate around tonight’s crucial Europa League second-leg, one story doing the rounds in the Transfer Tavern suggests a battle of a different sorts is set to occur.
The Daily Mail prepares for transfer war in the north west as they state Liverpool and Manchester United are seeking the signature of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, having received encouragement from Barcelona that he would be sold for the right price.
Liverpool have had their eyes on Ter Stegen for quite a while, as they seek a replacement for Simon Mignolet, whilst United’s interest has developed more recently amid concerns that David De Gea will be prized away by Real Madrid.
23-year-old Ter Stegen has played in cup competitions for Barcelona over the past two seasons but he’s firmly stuck as second-choice behind Claudio Bravo, who is the weekly starter in La Liga for the Catalan giants.
With Bravo expected to remain in his position for next season, Ter Stegen could well be on the move as he seeks weekly first-team football- and Barcelona may elect to cash-in for the right price, with funds needed to redevelop the Nou Camp and discuss new contracts with crucial players.
