Manchester United fans have endured a bleak festive period of football after a defeat to Stoke City on Boxing Day left the Red Devils on a run of four games without victory.
The 64-year-old boss is under immense pressure, with punters in the bar particularly aggrieved with the Dutchman’s tenure, and now the Mail On Sunday reports that Van Gaal will resign if they lose tomorrow’s huge clash.
United clash with struggling Chelsea tomorrow and Van Gaal has revealed he could quit, rather than face the sack, if the Manchester outfit lose their fifth game on the bounce. Speaking after the defeat at Stoke, he told reporters:
‘It is not always the club that has to sack me. Sometimes I do it by myself. I am the one who wants to speak first.’
‘It is getting more difficult because I am also part of the four defeats we have, so people are looking at me and I have to deal with that. For me, it is much more important what people are saying to me in private than public, but I don’t say what [he’s been told] because it is not any of your business.’
‘I can also quit by myself but that is something I speak with Ed Woodward and not with you. That is also something I don’t have to say.’
Fans at the bar are desperate to see the back of Van Gaal before he splashes more cash in the January transfer window, stating that they’d love to see recently axed Chelsea boss takeover at Old Trafford.
