Fans from a wealth of England’s top sides in the Transfer Tavern are today sharing their views on one nation’s Euro 2016 squad, which has seen a lot of big names miss out.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all see some of their top-stars miss out on a spot for back-to-back European Championship winners Spain, with Vicente Del Bosque having an embarrassment of riches to choose from.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa, Manchester United ace Juan Mata and Arsenal veteran Santi Cazorla have all been overlooked, with the likes of Aritz Aduriz, Andres Iniesta and Isco favoured over the Premier League trio.
There is a host of Premier League names amongst the squad though, as Manchester City’s David Silva, United’s David De Gea and Chelsea duo Cesc Fabregas and Pedro Rodriguez have all been included, despite the latter struggling since moving to England last summer.
Spain boss Del Bosque lifted the lid on his selections, addressing the choice to overlook Mata and Cazorla specifically.
‘(On Mata) It pains me but there’s a great deal of competition; and you have to leave feelings to one side. Cazorla has been five months injured and has made a great effort to be fit. But we wanted to avoid uncertainly.’
