We had a Dutch visitor in the Transfer Tavern last week who was raving about the performances of Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt and it seems that Premier League clubs are taking an interest in the centre-back, too, with Bleacher Report claiming Manchester United and Chelsea are among a pack of elite teams keen on him.
The 17-year-old has made eight Eredivise appearances this season after stepping up from the Amsterdam outfit’s youth set-up, while also making four outings in the Europa League.
In this time he has wowed with his composed playing style and Bleacher Report claim that a host of continental giants are keen on him.
Named among the pursuers are Man United and Chelsea, while Manchester City, Spurs, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Dortmund are also keen, and a source close to the player has told the outlet that he will have his “pick of clubs” when he does leave Ajax:
“This kid is one of those players who does not come along too often, but every club in Europe already knows about him.
“He is happy at Ajax, but when he does leave he will have his pick of clubs.”
Although the Netherlands are not enjoying their greatest period as a national team, De Ligt made his debut for them this year vs. Bulgaria, which is another feather in his cap given his youthful age.
Chelsea will beat Manchester United this weekend – agree?
