One of the most-sought after names in world football is the talk of the Football Transfer Tavern today after Mail Online’s John Drayton arrives in the bar to announce that Bayern Munich will sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowki next year.
Drayton confirms that Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the Polish star will make the switch to the Allianz Arena after another season with last season’s Champions League runners-up.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea were desperate to recruit the 24-year-old who scored a memorable four goals for Dortmund in their Champions League semi-final first-leg last against Real Madrid last season.
They were thought to have been given a boost in their pursuit after Dortmund refused to sell another star player to their Germam rivals after starlet Mario Gotze joined Bayern in controversial circumstances.
However Lewandoswki will now leave for Pep Guardiola’s new side once his contract expires at the end of the season.
“I think it is a known fact that Robert is going to play for Bayern after the upcoming season,” he told Welt am Sonntag.
“Now the only question is how to shape the time until then.
“That is our concern and it is our commitment to our fans and members to ensure that we will have a more competitive team in the upcoming season.
“Up to a certain point we were with Robert’s desire for change and were ready to talk. But nothing happened so we had to eventually say: ‘[A sale] now no longer works for us.
“And now we want to prove that, with a quality player like Robert, we can be successful in the coming year. Our results in the coming season is what we’re all about. I know that Robert and I see it the same way.”
