The Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting their stateside Manchester derby on Friday as Jose Mourinho takes on Pep Guardiola during pre-season preparations.
However, while there is now football to watch and talk about once more as we gear up to the new season, punters in the Tavern are still consumed by the talk filling transfer columns on a daily basis.
A new name has been linked with an Old Trafford move this week, with The Mirror claiming the Red Devils are monitoring the situation regarding Everton playmaker Ross Barkley, along with top four rivals Chelsea and Tottenham.
However, the red-top state that while Mourinho is interested he will not move while the Toffees’ asking price for the England international, reportedly on £48k-a-week at Goodison Park, remains at £50m.
While the is no interest in a deal at the current price, the former Chelsea manager has supposedly told Old Trafford chiefs to be ready to move in should the Merseysiders drop their valuation this summer.
That may, however, be wishful thinking from those in the red half of Manchester as Ronald Koeman’s side are being linked with a £50m move for Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, meaning they’ll need another big deal to fund the signing.
United fans, we want to hear from you! Do you think Barkley is needed at Old Trafford? Let us know…
