There hasn’t been too much for Manchester United to celebrate in recent years but, amid suggestions the Red Devils will win a fiercely contested race for a young talent, there’s a sense of optimism amongst the Transfer Tavern contingent.
16-year-old Chong, who can lead the attack as well as performing on the wing or centrally in midfield, wowed coaches at Carrington last year whilst on duty for Feyenoord in the U17 Premier Cup.
The teenager has spent six years with Feyenoord’s esteemed academy and is well aware of Manchester United’s interest, although he previously suggested his intention was to stay put with his current club.
“Feyenoord is and remains my first choice and we are still negotiating. It’s true that Manchester United are interested in me, but I want to just stay at Feyenoord. There is absolutely no question that I’m going out to the club.”
“Feyenoord now will come up with a plan of how they see me in the coming years at the club. I am hopeful that it will be all right and that I’m going to sign a contract with Feyenoord.”
Whilst his future remains uncertain, Manchester United will retain keen interest in the player and their attraction to the teenage sensation is unlikely to decrease either way.
